-- Southeast Asian Venture --
Some three years after setting it down in the first place, I found a 15-bar scrap (now the opening bars of this) in my music computer, which had been unplugged for about three years, during which all the music I wrote was done on my internet computer, at which I also produced this album. Apparently I got distracted and never finished this 15-bar gem. Listening to it, I liked the sound, so I got to work on it, and in about two hours, had what you hear here. It practically wrote itself, and it evokes, for me, pictures of the normal life of Asian boat people, perhaps on the Mekong river, or somewhere in Indonesia. The pentatonic marimba and english horn sound Chinese to me, the strings were as Indian as I knew how to make them. (Diminished chords are not foreign to the music used in Indian movies.) The odd-numbered phrasing just happened. |
