-- Billy And The Troll --
If I call this a "Novelty Tune," that tells you pretty near nothing, but that's what it is, I suppose, in the same sense that Edvard Grieg's |
"In the Hall of the Mountain King," Leroy Anderson's "Typewriter Song,"or anything from Prokofieff's "Peter and the Wolf" is a |
"novelty tune." What it really was intended to be is a musical representation of the old folk tale "The Three Billy Goats Gruff," as |
the title implies, in the same sense that Grieg and Prokofieff composed music for the stories cited. (Ibsen's "Peer Gynt," in the case |
of Grieg.) With this orchestration, it's a job for the Radio City Music Hall orchestra, the Boston Pops, or some such, and the "genre" |
is probably best called "Stage band music." or simply "orchestral." Is it classical? Not. Haydn did not have access to a synth bass. |
