Admittedly, it's a fanciful title,  prompted by the worn corner.  A real "ancestor of the surfboard" wouldn't be in the Columbia River.
Keep an eye out for ten-to-fifteen foot koa planks weighing nearly as much as a Hawaiian, in the Pacific Ocean.
